CHEMICAL/ PETROLEUM / PETROCHEMICAL ENGINEERING AS A PROFESSION
According to Wikipedia, Engineers are people who invent, design, analyze, build, and test machines, systems, structures and materials to fulfil objectives and requirements while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety and cost.Chemical Engineers in specific apply the principles of chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics to solve problems that involve the production or use of chemicals, fuel, drugs, food, plastics, paper, dyes, medicines, petrochemicals, fertilizers and many other products. Nanotechnology is another growing field where chemical engineers work.
With Chemical Engineering cutting across various sectors of the economy, there is a wide variety of workplace environment available to chemical engineers. Examples include oil and gas companies, refineries, pharmaceutical companies, laboratories to mention a few.
Notable Chemical Engineers in Nigeria are Dr. Olagoke Olabisi ;an independent consultant in Sugar land, Texas, Dr. Oristegbemi O. Omatete ;a retired Chemical Engineer, Engr Lola Masha; Country Manager at OLX, Engr Margaret Oguntala; CEO of Bamsat Nigeria Limited.
WHY CHEMICAL / PETROCHEMICAL / PETROLEUM ENGINEERING?
Have you always had the dream of making a difference in the world or of becoming a legacy? Do you get thrilled by breathtaking mathematics and chemistry questions? Then Chemical Engineering is for you! With a degree in Chemical Engineering you will be capable of providing better solutions to major environmental challenges such as high concentration of pollutants in the air we breathe in, non-availability of portable drinking water, high cost of renewable energy etc. As a Chemical Engineer, you get to design, test and implement new technologies to make life easier and better for people around and far from you, now tell me isn’t that the coolest profession ever?
